James
H. Burgess, Jr. was born
in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in 1954. He was admitted to the Florida
Bar in 1979 and has over 27 years of commercial, personal injury and insurance
defense litigation experience. Jim is also admitted to the United
States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida,
the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
He received his B.S. in 1976 from Indiana University and his J.D. in 1979
from Florida State University. Jim clerked for the Honorable Gene
E. Brooks, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana from
1979 through 1981. Jim was a principal in the law firm of Syprett,
Meshad, Resnick & Lieb, P.A. prior to co-founding this firm.
He is past president of the Sarasota County Bar Association and a member
of the American and Florida Bar Associations and the Florida Trial Lawyers
Association. He is also a Board Certified Civil Trial Attorney,
and a Certified Court Arbitrator. Jim focuses his practice in the
areas of commercial, person injury and insurance
defense litigation. Jim is a principal and co-founder of the
firm.
